St. James was the son of Zebedee and the brother of St. John. He and his brother were fishing when Jesus invited them to follow him. Our Lord called them “sons of thunder” because they were so zealous. He was present at most of the miracles performed by Jesus. He was also near Jesus at the Agony in the Garden. He was put to death around the year 42. He is especially honored at Compostella in Spain where a famous church is dedicated to his name.
